James’s Grandpa treasures balloons that hold memories of loved ones, adventures, and special moments including a silver balloon from a fishing trip with James. But when the balloons begin to float away, James must learn to hold onto them in a new way and share these precious memories with others.

Directed and choreographed by Dominic Moore-Dunson, recognized in Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch” for 2023, this enchanting production brings the story to life with theatrical dance, digital projections, and voiceover narration. Experience the breathtaking power, precision, and artistry of YAMATO – The Drummers of Japan in Tamayura: Echoes of the Soul. Founded in 1993 in Asuka-mura, Nara Prefecture, YAMATO has performed over 4,000 shows in 54 countries, bringing the energy, passion, and spirit of Japanese Taiko drumming to audiences around the world. Their performances are more than concerts they are immersive experiences that combine music, movement, and emotion to create what YAMATO calls “physical music.”

On stage, more than 40 Taiko drums of varying sizes come alive under the drummers’ disciplined and athletic movements. From the massive Odaiko, a two-meter-wide drum crafted from a 400-year-old tree weighing 500 kilograms, to smaller drums with distinct voices, each instrument contributes to a rich palette of sound that can be intense, tender, comforting, or playful. YAMATO’s musicians have trained their bodies to the limit to produce rhythms that are both powerful and delicately nuanced, engaging audiences in a visceral, unforgettable way.
